SHIATSU & TUI NA MASSAGE

The concepts of Qi and meridians are ancient Chinese theories and do not translate exactly into English. The most common translation of Qi is ‘energy’. It is this ‘energy’ that courses through channels of the body and connect the physical structures with the internal organs. In Chinese medical theory, pain and discomfort can be caused by a deficiency or blockage of Qi.

These therapies are based on the application of pressure to certain areas of the body, such as Acupuncture points, trigger points and tender areas, in order to balance energy flow throughout the body. Gentle stretches and rotations may also be implemented as a way to help release stagnant Qi from the joints. Treatments are performed fully clothed and require no oils.

The integration of physical massage with Chinese medical theory allows both Tui Na and Shiatsu to effectively assist with a wide range of complaints such as:

  • Headaches

  • Neck & shoulder issues

  • Back Pain

  • Hip issues

  • Muscle stiffness & pain

  • Digestive issues

  • Menstrual pain

  • Stress/Anxiety

  • Sleep issues

  • Circulatory, respiratory, lymphatic and hormonal systems

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Postural Assessment and Range Of Motion Assessment are used to determine the best course of treatment. In a ‘therapeutic massage’ treatment the therapist aims to address muscular tension in the body, improve muscular skeletal range of movement, decrease pain and discomfort and generally improve mental and emotional wellbeing.

Therapeutic massage treatment encompasses a range of modalities.

Therapeutic massage may be of benefit for the following conditions:

  • Headaches

  • Back Pain

  • Stress mental, emotional and physical

  • Rehabilitation post injury or surgery

  • Pre and post sports event to improve recovery and reduce risk of injury.

  • Muscular Tightness aches and pains due to poor posture and repetitive tasks.

Often remedial techniques are incorporated with more soft tissue relaxation massage style to create a well balanced therapeutic experience.

Each treatment is tailored to suit the clients needs, all techniques and methods used are discussed prior to treatment.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

During your massage there may be some discomfort (only slight pain) as the therapist works on areas of adhesion or scar tissue. Several treatments may be required to support the effective release of these areas.

Deep Tissue Massage, as its name says, focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It is designed to reach the deep sections of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibres.

Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, the purpose of Deep Tissue Massage is to unstick the fibres of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held tension points. Specific hand positions and strokes are used to respond to various tissues while breath and movement techniques are employed to release muscular congestion. It helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. It is both corrective and therapeutic. It is beneficial for many physical problems, including sports injuries and chronic pain. Because it works very deeply, emotional issues can also be addressed, when these have been stored in the body.

Treatments take place on a massage table on bare skin. Deep Tissue Massage usually focuses on specific areas and may cause some soreness during or after the session. If the massage is done correctly however, you should feel better within a day or two. Water helps to eliminate toxins from the body so it is important to drink plenty of water after a Deep Tissue Massage to help this process along.
